🇬🇧 Take your cello playing to the next level in our weekly Intermediate Cello Lab.
This class is designed for students who have a solid foundation on the cello and are ready to develop more advanced technique, musicianship, and repertoire. Over the course of our work together, we have progressed well beyond the fundamentals and are now working at approximately the level a student might reach after two years of consistent private cello lessons.
In this course, we work on:
Classes combine technical exercises, musical repertoire, and group playing, giving students the opportunity to strengthen their individual skills while learning to play together as an ensemble.
This is an intermediate-level class and is best suited for students who are already comfortable with the basic fundamentals of cello playing and are ready for more challenging material. You should be comfortable with Minuet 2, Rigadoon, Or early book 2 Suzuki songs.
📅 Every Wednesday 🕡 6:45–8:15 PM
Come continue developing your technique, expand your repertoire, and take your cello playing to the next level!

Geräusche, Klangfarben, Töne & was ist was?
Schwebungen & Reibungen
Griffbrettorientierung
der geheime Körpersinn
Lagenwechsel, Daumen & Co.
Anwendung im Einzel- und Ensembleunterricht
Improvisationskonzepte mit und ohne Instrumente

🇬🇧 You can’t learn to play in tune just by looking. And certainly not with a tuner! And if your arm is stiff when changing positions, it’s impossible to hit the notes exactly.
And then there are those moments when everything just flows naturally. It’s magical when your fingers hit the notes with ease. And intonation even becomes a form of expression—for example, when a leading tone is played with particular precision.
How would it be if you could work on the topic of pitches and sound with your students in a creative way that fosters a joy of playing?
What if you had a framework and plenty of ideas in mind to help you come up with a suitable exercise on the spot?
An exercise that’s actually music in itself and strengthens intonation at the same time? And what if, in both individual and group lessons, you knew how to spontaneously encourage your cellists to play together—while letting them experience music theory in a practical way?
The “Tones & Sounds” module—one of the six modules in the CelloByHeart Teacher Journey (https://www.sueschlotte.de/cellobyheart-teacher-journey) covers the following topics:
Noises, timbres, and tones—what’s what?
Pitch vibrations & friction
The internal sound model
The voice as a bridge between internal and external
Comparison of different methodologies utilizing tone syllables
Inspiration from the TonikaDo method
Atonal, modal, and “classical” scales
Intervals: vertical or horizontal (melodic or as double stops)
Use of the 12 drones (long fundamental tones) from CelloByHeart Music https://www.sueschlotte.de/cd-cellobyheart
Fingerboard orientation
The secret body sense
changing positions, the thumb, and more
Application in individual and ensemble lessons
Improvisation concepts with and without instruments
