This workshop explores the cello’s evolution beyond its classical roots into a dynamic voice within jazz and global traditions. Participants will engage with rhythmic concepts drawn from the Levant, North Africa, and fiddle styles, developing skills in polyrhythms, limb independence, and groove-based improvisation. Through practical exercises, we will strengthen time feel and deepen rhythmic awareness. The session also introduces extended techniques—such as chopping and bow bounce strokes—adapted from both Eastern and Western performance practices. Ideal for advanced string players seeking to expand their rhythmic vocabulary and explore the cello’s full expressive potential in contemporary and cross-cultural contexts.
